Israeli Mezzo Soprano Shay Bloch has performed numerous roles with the Israeli Opera, including: Nicklausse in Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Offenbach), Olga in Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Fenena in Nabucco (Verdi), Mercedes in Carmen (Bizet), Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni), Marthe in Faust (Gounod), the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Ein Page der Herodias in Salome (Strauss), Hannah in The Passenger (Weinberg), Emilia in Otello (Verdi), Flora in La Traviata (Verdi), Madame Flora (Baba) in The Medium (Monetti), Jade Boucher in Dead Man Walking (Heggie) and many others. In the upcoming seasons she will perform the roles of Azucena in Il Trovatore (Verdi), Madame de Croissy in Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc) and Third Nymph in Rusalka (Dvořák). Ms. Bloch will also return to Teatro Galli di Rimini as Eboli in Don Carlo (Verdi).
In her international career Ms. Bloch has debuted in SNG Opera in Ballet Ljubljana as Azucena in Il Trovatore (Verdi), in Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti Modena as Zita in Gianni Schicchi (Puccini), in the Sofia National Opera as Fenena in Nabucco (Verdi) and with the Associazione Sinfonico Lirica Lombarda in Arona and Bergamo (Italy) as Amneris in Aida (Verdi). She performed the role of Marte in Faust (Gounod), Costessa di Coigny in Andrea Chénier (Giordano), Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor, Mad.lla Dangeville in Adriana Lecouvreur and Pantalis in Mefistofele (Boito) in collaborated productions of the opera houses of Modena, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Ravenna, Rimini and Parma. Ms. Bloch has performed in a Gala concert in The Odessa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in September 2019, and in a Gala concert in the memory of Mirella Freni in Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti-Freni Modena, in October 2021.
Ms. Bloch was engaged as a soloist in Mozart's Requiem and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle at the Abu Gosh Festival, as the Alto in Beethoven's 9th Symphony with The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, and she performed the role of Madame Flora (Baba) in The Medium (Menotti) with the Jerusalem Street Orchestra. She has given numerous concerts throughout Israel in varied repertoire, with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, the New Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Bloch has performed as a soloist with leading conductors such as Daniel Oren, Dan Ettinger, Stefano Ranzani, Daniele Callegari, Frederic Chaslin, Omer Meir Wellber, Nir Kabaretti and others.
Ms. Bloch is a former ensemble member of the Israeli Opera's Meitar Opera Studio where her repertoire included in both orchestral and piano accompanied performances: Charlotte in Werther (Massenet), La Zia Principessa in Sour Angelica (Puccini), Madame Flora (Baba) in The Medium (Menotti), the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) and others. She had the fortunate opportunity to travel to South Korea for a series of concerts.
In 2016 Ms. Bloch received the honorable scholarship to work with Mirella Freni as a participant in Corso di Alta Formazione Cantata Lirici at the Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti Modena, and continued to study with her. In 2015 Ms. Bloch was a finalist in the "il Concorso Internazionale di Canto Lirico G.B.Rubini" Competition.
Ms. Bloch is a graduate of the Buchman-Mehta School of Music and a recipient of the AICF, the Fay Harbour, the Baser, the Eli Leon and the International Vocal Arts Institute scholarships.
